Nestled in the tree-lined prestigious suburb of Paddington, Brisbane is an elevated, contemporary retreat named Amiri. Internally designed in collaboration with Graya and Kelder Architects, Residence Studio were engaged to provide a full furnishing solution in addition to hard finish selections.

The internal and external materiality were extremely important key elements in creating the backdrop for the feature furniture pieces. The connection between inside and outside together with texture, warmth and a minimalist approach was the furnishing criteria, the client wished to feel like they were on a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane.

Restraint and a minimalist design approach played an important role in the furniture selections to add to the integrity of the design. The combination of well thought out finishes together with warm, textural design elements and flooding natural light allows the home to change throughout the day. Wherever you are in this beautiful home, the grounding nature and calming quality of all the spaces feel poetic and seamless.

Stepping into Amiri, you are embraced by the warm timber flooring and a vast ceiling space with soft natural light. The furniture proportions were a consideration in the entry, the large abstract feature canvas and the boucle bench with feature mirror/ hooks to the entry provide visual interest as well as practicality. The curved feature hall table mimics the curved staircase above and is slightly tucked underneath the stairs, it is adorned with piles of feature coffee table books and sculptural decor pieces.

The open plan main kitchen, living and dining space are the hero of Amiri, the full height timber glazed doors to the outdoor entertaining and pool area allow for natural light to flood into the vast living spaces. With the large overall ceiling height, Residence Studio were considered in their furniture selections to ensure the pieces allow for a seamless transition between the open spaces and a visual link to the green outdoor and pool area.

The muted palette to the dining area continues to elevate the overall furniture design, the combination of leather and a textured fabric to the fully upholstered dining chairs and the solidity of the dining table that curves on either end is somewhat paired back but allows for the eye to move around the open plan design.

The bespoke locally made modular sofa in the lounge adds a casual softness to the space, the soft curves and overall modular size is balanced by the vast ceiling height and also provides an undercurrent connection back to the entry curved staircase. The feature warm toned palomino marble to the coffee table provides a grounded earthy element while the feature fern velvet armchair provides a link to the greenery outside.
