How To Style A Coffee Table
How to Style your Coffee Table
Coffee Tables are central to our homes living spaces and are a great way to incorporate colour and personality. Get rid of the messy remotes and consider the coffee table area the place
Here we explore our favourite ways to style your coffee table:
KEEP YOUR STYLING SIMPLE
Sometimes it just requires a few feature pieces and it doesn’t need to be overcomplicated. See our video on the right of how we styled one of our recent projects, Amiri. Here are some ideas that can make the styling process easier for a nest of round coffee tables:
Option 1 - Spread items across both coffee tables
Stack of 2 different sized coffee table books with a glass feature knot object on top. Add a beautiful ceramic vase with some long florals that bring in the same cushion colours.
Option 2 - Stack items on smaller coffee table
Stack items to one coffee table. Large scale feature coffee book, feature contrast ceramic tray, brass incense oyster shell and incense.
Option 3 - Spread items on large coffee table
Stack of 2 coffee table books to one side with feature resin vases that bring in the colours of the marble top, add a contrast book to the other side with a feature piece that has a different texture.
“CONSIDER how YOU WILL use THE COFFEE TABLE. WE RECOMMEND hiding THE MESSY THINGS IN drawers AND KEEPING THE TABLE TOP clear WITH THE MAIN FOCUS BEING visually interesting pieces.”
CONSIDER YOUR COMPOSITION
One of the most important aspects of styling a coffee table is to ensure that the items feel ‘visually balanced’ on the table. This doesn’t mean for things to all be symmetrical - sometimes asymmetry can be a statement in itself and be very beautiful.
Take into account the coffee table shape, as a rule of thumb 2-4 sections work best. If you are working with a large square table, you can gather everything in the centre and have 3 or 4 different sections. If you are working with a circular shape, you could work with 2 or 3 sections.
Also play with different levels - stack different sized coffee table books, add a vase with florals or greenery and add some visually interesting objects of trinkets.
If you have a coffee table with a glass top, sometimes a tray or feature bowl to add some visual ‘weight’, we like to add moss in a bowl to add some freshness or a sage stick or Palo Santo for an earthy touch.
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS & INVEST IN TIMELESS PIECES
We like to invest in pieces that can be utilised and used all over the home. Prior to committing to a timeless piece, make sure this is a piece you can’t live without and can't get just anywhere.
For example, consider a hand-made ceramic vase, this can be used on the coffee table with a couple of stems or can be used on the entry console or kitchen bench as a feature decorative piece.
We love supporting local Australian artisans and try in incorporate amazing products in our projects, using these one of a kind pieces that are a great talking point and attract attention in any space.
Above all, don’t be afraid to experiment! Sometimes the most beautiful styled spaces come from moving things around and testing things out.
