Entry Table Styling

The Entry area is the first opportunity to create a statement in your home and establish the look and feel. We love creating an impact in our clients entryways, it allows us to inject their personality, bring visual interest and start the interior story.

Here are some important tips and things to consider when styling your Entry Table..

Here are our designer hints for layering your entry table and creating a memorable space for both you and your guests to enjoy:

  1. Start with the bigger bulkier pieces and lay these out on the table top. These will create places for the eye to land and establish your general layout.

The largest piece in the video was the circular vase so this needed to be in the right position first, the designer books then are stacked.

  2. Consider the books you will be putting on the table, use the spine to incorporate colour or open a book on the surface to create visual interest.

  3. Add additional visually interesting pieces such as a candle, metallic object and floral to the vase. In this case we used beautiful dried sticks - firstly because the space was large and these filled it visually - but these also will last for a long time and minimise upkeep.

You could incorporate cherry blossoms to add in a little pink or white, or even add longer stem greenery - the options are endless. See our image below of how we used florals to create a completely different feel.

  4. Light your candle or oil burner and enjoy!

COFFEE TABLE BOOKS

We are not shy when it comes to talking about our love of coffee table books! Our personal collections are very extensive as we tend to collect along the way.

There are so many different ways you can incorporate books into your interiors, think of them as you would any accessory.

For an entry hall table, we use different stacks of coffee table books to fill out the space on the table, thinks about different coloured covers and spines, ones with graphic text or imagery or different thicknesses - you can also have a book open on the table as well which can also inject colour and add to your home’s theme.

FRAGRANCE

The language of fragrance allows us to convey more than just smell, it can absolutely add to the interior design of a home and transport your guests to another place. Scent can come in many forms, but our favourite scents to add to a space are incense, candles and florals.

Think about the season or look and feel of your home, is it coastal? Is it winter? Scents for coastal homes could have more summery fresh and floral notes - think coconut, lime, cucumber, basil. Winter scents could be more spicy, the warmth of ginger and notes of leather and tobacco.

Florals can be intimidating when starting to think about varieties, but here we always say to have a play around and find out what you love. Start thinking seasonally, visit your local flower markets and see what varieties they have, experiment and see what you love. Think about scale and proportion - florals don’t have to be flowers but could also be large tree branches from fruit trees, a feature bowl of moss or long trailing greenery.

You can also have these customised buy florists, take some inspirational imagery from Pinterest or Instagram so they can replicate an arrangement.

SCULTPURAL ELEMENTS

We always add in sculptural elements to break up more ‘block’ like sections on a hall table. Take a trip to your local antique centre or homewares store and try to find interesting forms and shapes that can break larger elements up. We found an onyx ashtray at our local antique centre that also served as a place to put a sage stick or palo Santo. We also love organic bowls, urns or pots that can also double up as a place to put florals.

Alternatively this could also a great opportunity to support local artisans, we love using local Australian ceramists and artists. Adding pieces that are one of a kind are a great conversational piece with your guests!
